Add some hygge to your home this Autumn

The start of Autumn, as well as Spring, is a great time to give your home a deep clean and an update too, as we start using it in a different way. When the nights draw in and it’s colder outside, we crave more time on the sofa, and want to feel cosy and warm. Here’s how.

Introduce plenty of fragrance into your home. Use scented candles and oil diffusers to make the rooms feel extra cosy with scents of cinnamon, pumpkin, ginger and cedar wood. The flickering glow of tea lights or tall pillar candles will add to the cosy atmosphere.

Bring in extra warmth and texture through added cushions, blankets or throws and bedspreads, in autumnal colours. Mustard yellows, copper shades and rusty oranges will create an extra warm feel. Go for a balanced mix of patterned and plain fabrics. Tartans are lovely and cosy, as are plush velvets.

Make the space feel warm and homely with cleverly positioned lighting. Create pools of ambient light with wall lamps, floor lamps and table lamps with warm bulbs rather than harsh overhead spotlights. Flickering fires, candles and tea lights are the best.

Pick up an autumn wreath from your local homes & interiors store. Something with a mix of twigs, pine cones, berries and pumpkins will make a great first impression and get you geared up for the season ahead.
