Tips & tricks on warming up your home for Winter
The days are shorter than ever, it’s wet and probably below freezing outside, plus Christmas is hurtling towards us. If staying in with a glass of red and the latest Netflix series is all you want to do, why not turn your home into a gorgeously cosy space which looks on point and makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Don’t worry, it’s nothing major, just a few tweaks here and there will guarantee you those ‘hygge’ feels.
Choose accessories in warm colours, and don’t be afraid to go darker. Deep reds and ambers are lovely snug shades whilst charcoal greys, chocolate browns and even black will create a moody, dramatic, wintery atmosphere. A touch of metallic here and there adds extra drama - pick from brass, copper or gold.
Add more soft lighting by introducing additional lamps to rooms and hallways. Mellow glows are more appealing than bright dazzling lights, particularly when it’s dark and gloomy outside, and will help you achieve that warm and cosy feel.
Add textures and plenty of layers by choosing cushions, throws, a rug, with a warm base like cream, taupe or peat. Look for cable-knit weaves, fake fur, wool and velvets for plenty of comfort.
Don’t be afraid of pattern, it’s a great way to warm up a space. Tartan is perfect for a wintery feel and can be introduced through cushions, throws, vases, even a change in artwork or a fun ornament.
Your fireplace is often the focal point of any living room so for an impactful update, change up the mantelpiece. Consider a twiggy garland that will bring further texture to the room and ties in with the bare branches outdoors. This is so simple to do as it can just be grabbed from outside. In front of this, add layers of candles at varying heights. At this time of year there’s no such thing as too many candles, after all. Try some on candlesticks, some scented, in coloured pots and a lantern or two with a larger candle inside.
