What's set to be hot in our homes for 2024

2023 has been quite a year when it comes to the emergence of some fabulous interiors trends. While I don’t tend to subscribe to following what everyone else is doing, and I firmly believe you should always design to suit your unique taste, and yours alone, it’s always fun to peak at the trends and pick and choose the ones you fancy.
This year has swung wildly from Cottagecore to the more understated Quiet Luxury and Japandi, all of which seem here to stay. Perhaps more of a fad was the Barbie pink phase, although I hope the more subtle pinks will hang around into 2024.

Boucle has been all the rage, and is set to continue into our bedrooms next year. We’ve seen bows on everything. We’ve colour drenched our rooms and we’ve seen beautiful rugs made from plastic bottles in a bid for sustainability.

So what new is incoming to our homes and Insta feeds in the year ahead?

Brown is the new grey

I mean grey has been out for a while, and you’ll have spotted the earthy beiges and warm taupes seeping in as we embrace cosier tones. But actual brown? I am not sure it’s for me, but perhaps in the right space, and the right shade, it could work. I could entertain a chocolate brown, when mixed with terracotta pinks that’s for sure.

Fancy utilities

Previously deprioritised areas of the home such as pantries and utility rooms are getting a glow up as we head into 2024. Not particularly glamorous but considering the amount of time so many of us spend in the laundry room or the boot room, it’s definitely worth turning them into spaces which make us feel wonderful. These rooms are usually on the smaller side, and so very often give us the confidence to go bolder with pattern and colour. I am definitely here for this.

Bring on the texture

Less of the high gloss walls, which were in for about fifteen minutes, and we’ll be seeing more of the hand applied or brushed finishes, such as limewash or plaster. Of course wooden panelling in all shapes and sizes is very of the moment, so this feels like a step on from that.

Searches for ‘handmade’ and ‘eclectic interior design vintage’ are growing steadily on platforms such as Etsy or Pinterest, suggesting a step away from our love of minimalism, and towards more of a traditional, rustic feel.

Amuse La Bouche cushions from Rose & Grey

Ruffles, on the likes of cushions and table linen – are adding to the textured feel in our homes. They often come with a pretty gingham print, ice cream shades or candy cane stripes like the gorgeous Amuse Bouche examples from Rose & Grey.
