Get your cosy on with these Winter warmers
The cold snap has well and truly arrived hasn’t it. Time to embrace those snug, dark nights as we approach the shortest day of the year, so hunker down with these tips to get your cosy on in Winter.
Get your lighting right. Ditch the overhead lights and create pools of low ambient light at different levels around the room. Floor lamps, wall lights, fairy lights at low levels. Portable battery powered lamps on timers are my fave at this time of year. They are easily moved and I love how they have no unsightly wires showing.
At this time of year it’s great to have a dark and moody space within the house, so if you’re decorating a ‘snug’ or any other space that you think can get away with it, be bold. choose burgundies, murky greens, black or inky navy for the walls. Or cover light coloured walls with oversized pieces of dark coloured artwork, and team with deep curtains or blinds and a huge dusky rug.
Bring in texture and layer, layer, layer. Throws, blankets, cushions, woollen and fleecy rugs, tweed and woollen fabrics in warm shades - earthy taupes reds and pinks, or burnt orange, mustard yellow.
Fill any wide open spaces with an extra piece of furniture or accessory. Maybe some display shelving, a new little boucle armchair, which can always be removed in summer, this is a great way to add warmth and a homely feel.
Scent is key at this time of year as it’s about stimulating all the senses, and the right smells can really make a space feel extra cosy. Flood your room with cinnamon, spice, pine, clove, ginger, orange. This is a great way to add your personality to any space too. I’ve recently invested in The Winter candle from the White Company, and it just finishes off my front room, I absolutely adore it!
