Walls brimming with personality: how to fill your blank walls and make them wow

I’m always harping on about the importance of filling your home with personality, moments of wow, making it unique to you. So today I wanted to talk about one way to do this, whilst filling a blank wall space at the same time.

1. Create a mini gallery

Choose a mix of frames, in different styles and different sizes, and create a mini eclectic gallery of family photos and moments. Stick to black and white to keep things consistent whilst the frames are all mismatched.

2. Add a mirror.

A great way to bounce light around and make the room feel larger - a mirror is brilliant for a small or dark space.

3. Install panelling.

A beautiful way to add texture and character to your home . Make sure you stick with a style which suits the style of your home - whether that’s traditional moulding or a more contemporary slatted wood design.

4. Style some display shelving

Add some shelving, either floating or a full built in unit. It’s a lovely way to display books, trinkets, vases, candles, knick knacks, photographs - unique pieces of you that reflect your lifestyle and tell your story.

5. Invest in huge artwork.

A piece that will fill the space and make a real impact. Something you love and which speaks to you personally. The bigger the better. Don’t forget to frame it beautifully though. You’re best taking your piece to a local framing business as the right mount and frame can really make your art stand out and look amazing.

6. Adorn your walls with fabric

Your large piece of art doesn’t have to be a standard print either. Why not frame a fabulous large tapestry, rug or blanket and add warmth and texture as well as colour and pattern to your walls.

7. Pick your fave wallpaper .

Wallpaper will add interest to a blank wall whilst bringing personality to the room. It doesn't have to cover the whole wall - you might prefer to fill frames of panelling trim, or even a border of wallpaper for a more subtle effect.

8. Play with paint effects

From stripes to ombre or colour blocking or even a mural, unusual paint effects can be a great way to create impact on a blank wall.

9. Style a console or sideboard

A console is great if you don’t have a huge amount of space to play with, when styled with a beautiful set of vases, a mirror or more personal items. A sideboard will double up as handy storage whilst looking pretty, just ensure it’s not too big, too small and in the style of the rest of the space.

10. What about wall lights?

It’s always good to have lighting at different levels across a room. They are a great way to add ambience and warmth to a space whilst also being decorative.
